Chapter 1
The sun was just starting to rise in the horizon over Kidan. The bird's morning song was heard all around. Some would find these songs annoying in the early morning, but to a certain shifter, they were a certain type of blessing. The lone humanlike shewolf lay on her back in the dewy wet grass of the valley. It was easy to tell she was a shifter. Her upper legs were long like humans, and her paws were shaped as hands. A calm aura surrounded her which separated her from werewolves. A simple, long cloth hung by a belt in front of her, and it was all she wore. Her breasts were fully covered with fur which took the place of clothes. Like all the wolf races, shifters were a proud race and didn't see a need to cloth her features while she was a wolf. Her arms were crossed under her head propping it up. Eyes closed, ears pricked to the wonderful sound. A soft breeze came through the valley and ruffled her fur; she could have lain there all morning, but she had business to attend to.
With a stretch she rolled over onto her paws and shook her dampened back before raising her muzzle in the air and howled to the sky. The howl wasn't as lovely as the birds shrill ones, but hers had its own certain beauty. She opened her golden eyes as her keen nose caught the scent of another shifter a few miles away, a male wolf shifter. She was not alarmed though, his scent was familiar. The shewolf rose up on her hide legs and stood up straight, stretching her arms to the sky with a yawn. The male shifter was closing in fast which made the shewolf smile and her tail wag happily. Turning around she walked in the direction the male was coming to see him walking out of line of trees into the valley. He was a little taller than her, his eyes were also golden. The fur around his paws and chest were white, while the rest was black as night. He also wore a long cloth in front of him by his waist as well. These was the only clothing any shifter wore as a wolf. Their eyes meet, lowered themselves to all four paws and bounded toward each other. Upon reaching the other, both shifters yelped a greeting before licking each other's muzzle. Both tails were wagging as they stood on their hind legs again. The malewolf wrapped his arm around the shewolf's waist and held her close as he licked her forehead. "Every morning Chandra," The male growled playfully as he nipped at her ear. "Every morning you come out here and yet you've told me time and time again, I don't understand what out here appeals to you so much that you'd leave our warm bedding to come out here."
Chandra grinned again as she embraced her mate, holding him close. Chandra Channing was the Head alpha of all the wolf clan. But to her clan she was also alpha female. The shifters were unique to the other wolves, for shifters were only part wolf. They were able to change from human to wolfperson on their own free will. Being head alpha, she had authority over the other main alpha's, like her own mate. Her rule out matched the others. The other alphas didn't always like this, but were subjects to her. Ever since the previous head alpha passed on, Chandra came to the meadow the clear her mind and relax before the day started. She was young in shifter years, only 60 years, but to human measures, she was 120. Chandra nuzzled her muzzle into the thick fur of her mate's neck. "Then you shall never understand, my love Adolph Reule, more than the fact that it brings me pure joy to come here." Adolph smiled as he leaned back to look at her. Adolph had only recently become Chandra mate. He was a lone shifter, roaming the forest with no rule over him. For a while he loved being free, but soon became lonely and sought out the comfort of a pack. Upon finding Chandras shed taken a particular liking to him, and easily let him join the pack. Once the season came around, Adolph and Chandra bonded together for life. Though Chandra was careful.. She wasnt ready to have pups. It made Adolph happy that hed found someone his age, though he took pride in being a few moons older than Chandra. "We should get back, my queen," He unwrapped his and her arms, grabbed her paw, bowed and licked it, followed with a mischievous grin. He knew she hated that name. "The hunters were bringing a fresh kill as I came to get you. Your loyal subjects will be waiting for you to begin eating." Chandra reached up with her free paw and grabbed his ear, playfully yanked on it. "Yes, I was getting up to come back when I picked up your scent." Adolph smiled as he shook his head free from Chandra grasp and turned in the direction he had come. Both Adolph and Chandra leaned down on all fours, and then took off running into the forest. A normal wolf can reach the speeds of thirty-five miles per hour. A shifter's great size and long legs increase their speeds to fifty miles per hour, only in wolf form. It didn't take long for the pair to reach a group of tall stone about fifteen to twenty feet high, covered in moss or grass. From this angle, you weren't able to see how far around it was. But it was designed to look like a mountain, so that when lazy humans who traveled through the forest came upon it, theyd go around rather than climb over. This was the Shifter's Sanctuary. A howl from the other side of the stone wall signaled the return of the alphas. Adolph crouched down to the forest floor, tensing his leg muscles for the high jump. With one great push from his legs, he sailed into air and landed gracefully on the top of the wall. While Chandra looked up at him, Adolph looked down at her as he stood on his hind legs. He crossed his arms over his chest and smirked triumphantly, as he wagged his tail. Males, Chandra thought to herself. such show offs. She knew she could do the same as him, but decided to let him get away with his pride intact. Chandra crouched, and pushed off the ground then grabbed the stone wall with her claws as she started to fall back to the ground. Before she even had time to slide down the smooth rock surface, Chandra pushed up again, and did this a couple more times before reaching the top. Once getting there, she landed beside Adolph in a crouch. She shook her fur before standing up to meet the annoyed gaze of her mate. She laid her ears down with one wag of her tail and smiled innocently. Adolph knew she could jump better than that, but rolled his eyes and smiled back to Chandra, knowing he couldnt stay mad at her for long. He licked her cheeks then lunged down into the clearing protect by the stone wall. Remaining on the top, Channing looked down at her pack that hungrily surrounded the couple deer that the hunters had brought. The shifters were not a very large pack, only containing 10 members including herself. The pack was separated into 4 groups, alphas, betas, hunters, guards. The betas, Bane Lowell and Kamalia Christa, were in charge were in charge while both alphas were away, and the guards, Okami Silent and Arashi Shine and Lori Atsumari, took different shifts, but prowled around the top of the walls watching for intruders. Hunters, Shadow Fang and Sakura Hidenka and Masurao Kaibutsu, went out to search for food while the alphas were in charge. A soft breeze rustled through her fur, bringing her back to reality from her daze. She shook her body, rustling her fur again before jumping down after Adolph.
The eight other wolves were already surrounding Adolph, nuzzling against him with a couple of licks at his hand, welcoming him back home. Chandra walked behind him, her tail wagging, as a few of the shifters welcomed her home as well. Once the welcomes we over, all the shifters surrounded the three deer that the hunters had brought home. Chandra and Adolph walked up to theyre favorite deer, and slit its stomach with their claws. They dropped their muzzles into the blood and guts that spilled from the deer till they found the liver. The liver was the most rich in flavor, and it was high in protein. Chandra and Adolph ate the liver first to show their dominance over the pack. Once they got to the last deer, they shared they liver then started eating off the carcasses. One by one the other shifters, slowly approached the deer and started to feed themselves. Soon, what was left of the deer was being picked off by ravens and crows. The shifters were laid scattered out through the Sanctuary, their bellies were full, as they were in deep sleep. Chandra and Adolph laid curled up together in a little hallow of the rocks. Adolphs slow even breathing along with the other members of the pack, was peaceful to Chandra. Her eyelids were heavy but she wasnt quite ready to go to sleep. Her mind traveled back to her original thoughts in the meadow before Adolph had come to fetch her. Before she had become Head Alpha, there was a on going war between the wolf tribes, and the living dead, vampires. Shed never met a vampire in her younger years, but from the stories that were told to her, her people and the vampires were fighting just to fight.
Vampires lived off of blood of other living things, preferably human blood, there was nothing anyone could do about that. Some of the vampires satisfied their thirst through the blood of animals, but even those vampires were just murders in humans eyes. The dispute between the vampires and humans was never a concern for the wolves. There was a bigger fight, a war, that had been going on longer. The stories of the continuous blood shed between the vampires and wolves, had be pasted down through the generations of wolves. It began as a fight over territory, then hunting grounds, now it had just continued because of the pure hatred toward the other species. Before the previous head alpha passed on, Chandra was able to sneak into the territory of the vampires to visit their leader, Alexander Lerant. She had never met a vampire, so she wanted her own opinion. It had surprised her when Alexander graciously accepted her company, and listened intently as she explained her views on the war. Now that everyone had their territories she didn't see any reason for the fighting to continue. Alexander seemed to agree with her on her points, he didn't like the pointless fighting of his people. Chandra promised she would try to find a way to make peace between the two species, something that no one ever thought would happen. That was a couple months ago, and now Chandra Channing was the head alpha, and had the power to make this peace. She hadn't shared her thoughts with any other besides Alexander, not even Adolph. It was now time for her to step up, and use the authority she'd recently inherited, and put her ideas into affect.

But it's good; it's smooth from what I could tell.
I'm not much for furry-type things, but it was described in such a tasteful manner that I didn't mind it.
